A few days ago, I decided that in order to store my senior thesis project that I needed to remove the French cleats off the back. The French cleats were easy enough to remove but they left behind a thick coating of glue that I decided to pry off. I now have 2 gashes on the middle of my middle finger, right where it bends. I wasn't even cut by the utility knife I was using (to help with the prying) but by the hardened glue! The sensitivity that accompanies newly broken skin is interesting – making me all too aware of every bend, graze and encounter.
I feel that this isn’t much different from my bekcho status as a whole. Bekcho meaning swan in Korean but also a term used for women in the state of unemployment. Wading in the water with nothing to do, this bekcho status has made me slow down, consistently reminding me not to act in haste, to pay attention to the things that are often missed and providing the time to re-familiarize, myself.
